Two suspects held in Bugti shootout in Karachi
At least two suspects have been arrested in the violent clash between two rival Bugti tribal groups in Karachi’s DHA VI Nishat Commercial area, police said.
At least five people were killed, former Balochistan governor Akbar Bugti’s nephew, Fahad, in the gun battle.
Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Javed Alam Odho stated revealed that more than 17 suspected individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
“The case has been registered with the state as the complainant,” said Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho and added that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands in the city.
The clash occurred late last night in the commercial area of Iqbal Market, and the case has been registered at the Drigh Road police station. The charges include murder, attempted murder, and terrorism.
The AIG emphasised that the authorities would not tolerate any individuals or groups trying to disturb the peace and security in Karachi. He added that a thorough investigation was under way and the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
CCTV footage showed that two white vehicles and a black vehicle approaching from a side road. As the vehicles stop, a chaotic scene unfolds. As individuals disembark from the vehicles, a shootout ensues. People can be seen taking cover.
