A newlywed bride died after consuming some poisonous food in the Sarband area on the periphery of Peshawar while the groom was admitted in critical condition at the hospital.

The couple belongs to Afghanistan and got married on Sunday, police said.

On Monday, the newlywed couple was not opening the door of the room. On breaking the bolt of the room, both bride and groom were found lying unconscious.

The bride was declared dead on reaching the Hayatabad Medical Complex while the groom was admitted to the hospital in a precarious condition, police added.

The investigation was in progress and any clue about consuming poisonous food would be found after interviewing the groom, police said.
