Pakistani actor Fawad Khan has advised aspiring actors to capitalise on any opportunity they get in life to showcase their talent and craft.

“To actors I would say, capitalise on any opportunity you get. If nothing else, you will get the chance to polish your craft,” he said in an interview with Pinkvilla. “You are nothing before you’re something.”

He appeared for the Indian media outlet’s interview via video link where he spoke about his upcoming series Barzakh.

While speaking about his fame through his lead role in Humsafar, Fawad said: “I had just come from a rock band and I wanted to do something more complex than ‘Humsafar,’ but being dismissive is not the way to start out. I’m not saying that ‘Humsafar’ was nothing, but yes, it was an opportunity to start work.”

According to Khan, while India has predominantly excelled in the realm of cinema, Pakistani actors and directors have honed their skills in crafting compelling long-form narratives for television.

“In Pakistan, the visual medium has primarily been television, whereas in India, the strong suit is cinema,” the actor explained.

Fawad added that when he read the script for “Barzakh,” he was immediately drawn to the project due to the strong writing, talented team, and the direction of Asim Abbasi. He admitted that playing the role of Sheheryar, a psychiatrist whose character becomes increasingly “unhinged” as the show progresses, was emotionally taxing.

“He’s a candidate for therapy himself! I’m laughing about it now, but shooting it was emotionally disturbing on many levels,” he said.

The actor also expressed his delight in reuniting with fellow Pakistani star Sanam Saeed, with whom he previously worked on the acclaimed drama series “Zindagi Gulzar Hai.” Khan praised Saeed’s acting prowess.

Barzakh is set to premiere online on July 19.
