Heatwave wreaks havoc in Karachi, two dead, hundreds affected

Affected people received immediate medical attention

The scorching heatwave in Karachi has taken a heavy toll on the city’s residents, with over a thousand people affected by the extreme temperatures.

Medical camps and hospitals in Karachi have been inundated with patients seeking relief from the heatwave, officials said. At the Civil Hospital, two individuals lost their lives due to heat stroke.

The medical camp set up on MA Jinnah Road treated around 400 patients while the Edhi Foundation provided assistance to 616 individuals. The Chhipa Foundation also attended to 209 patients during the Ashura procession.

The Sindh Rescue Team 1122 transported over 500 patients in their ambulances transferring three of them to the Civil Hospital for further treatment. The emergency ward of the Civil Hospital received 22 heat-affected patients.

Dr Shahid Rasool, the executive director at the Jinnah Hospital, urged citizens to stay hydrated by consuming cool drinks and wear wet towels when venturing outdoors during the extreme heat.
