An anti-terrorism court in Lahore approved a 10-day physical remand of former prime minister Imran Khan in a dozen May 9 cases.

Police had requested a 30-day remand to conduct investigations on 12 cases against the PTI founder. Khan was presented before the court via video call from Adiala Jail while his lawyers Azhar Siddique and Usman Gul opposed the police’s remand request, arguing that their client should be presented in person.

After hearing the arguments, the judge reserved his verdict and later announced the decision, granting the police a 10-day physical remand of Khan. The remand was approved for five cases at Sarwar Road police station, three at Gulberg police station and one each at Race Course, Shadman, Model Town and Mughalpura police stations.

This development comes as the authorities continue their investigation into various cases against the former prime minister, who has been a vocal critic of the current government since his ouster in 2022.

At the hearing, Khan told ATC Judge Khalid Arshad that he had not called for any violent protests in 28 years. He also stated that no independent inquiry had been conducted into the May 9th incidents.

Additionally, Khan is also facing cases related to the Jinnah House, the military establishment, and the Shadman Police Station arson attacks. Police had earlier arrested the PTI chairman at the Adiala Jail in these 12 cases.
