Khattak’s testimony against Imran Khan revealed

Statement revealed how matters were handled in cabinet meeting

A statement given by former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in court regarding a 190 million pound reference against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been revealed.

According to the statement, in 2019, then-aide for accountability, Shahzad Akbar, informed the cabinet about an agreement between the British and Pakistani governments to repatriate illegally acquired funds from the UK.

Khattak stated that Akbar presented a sealed envelope to the cabinet, claiming it contained the agreement’s documents. He further claimed that Akbar informed the cabinet that the 190 million pounds illegally transferred would be returned to the Pakistani government.

He said that he and other cabinet members objected to the sealed envelope, demanding disclosure of the agreement’s contents. However, Akbar insisted the agreement was confidential, and the cabinet members remained silent.

Khattak added that Akbar presented the sealed envelope as an additional agenda item, and the former Prime Minister formally approved it.

The statement revealed that the investigating officer in the reference mentioned a written document accompanying the agreement.

According to the officer, the document stated that the funds were to be transferred to a property tycoon, and a portion of the funds had already been transferred. Khattak recorded his statement with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the presence of his lawyer.
