The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to extend BRT service from Peshawar’s Chamkani to Nowshera’s Pabbi town.

It has also been decided to declare Ring Road from Chamkani to Hayatabad as the BRT route for starting modern bus service on the route with an aim to facilitate the commuters in the vicinity of the provincial capital.

The decisions were taken in a board meeting of KP Urban Mobility Authority (KPUMA) on Wednesday. KP Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur presided over the meeting.

Officials briefed the provincial government on the urban mobility plans for the divisional headquarters. The chief minister directed the Transport Department to come up with “solid proposals” for starting electric bus service in the urban areas of all the divisional headquarters after thorough consultations with all relevant stakeholders.

The forum also decided to extend fare exemption for children up to five years of age travelling with their parents in BRT busses.

KP CM Gandapur said that the provincial government was committed to developing the transport system on modern lines and directed the authorities concerned to take measures for improving service delivery and implementation of their plans in letter and spirit.
