Govt announces Muharram holidays
The Federal government has announced public holidays for the 9th and 10th of Muharram, corresponding to July 16th and 17th (Tuesday and Wednesday), in observance of Ashura.
The Cabinet Division has issued a notification declaring the holidays for the entire country.
Following tradition, the government has declared these public holidays to allow citizens to observe Ashura with solemnity and remembrance.
Ashura, commemorated across the world, including Pakistan, marks the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Hussain, and his family members in their fight for the principles of Islam.

The day is dedicated to reflecting on the sacrifices made by the Ahl al-Bayt (Prophet Muhammad’s family) and their unwavering commitment to their faith.
Strict security arrangements are made on the occasion of Ashura.
