PM Shehbaz sets off for Tajikistan

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif embarked on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan on Tuesday.

This visit will be followed by a trip to Kazakhstan, where Sharif will attend the twin summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

“At the invitation of President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan from 2-3 July 2024,” the foreign office said.

“In Dushanbe, the Prime Minister will meet President Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of Majlisi Namoyandagon of Majlisi Oli Mahmadtoir Zoir Zokirzoda and Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda,” foreign office added.

“The two sides will also sign agreements and MoUs in diverse areas of cooperation,” the foreign office stated.

The foreign office stated that the two sides would engage in wide-ranging discussions on areas of mutual interest, with a focus on deepening cooperation in regional connectivity, trade, people-to-people contacts, and energy.

At the SCO Council of Heads of Summit Meeting, the Prime Minister will share Pakistan’s viewpoint on important regional and global matters. He will emphasize the significance Pakistan places on regional connectivity and cooperation with other SCO member countries.

The Prime Minister will also outline Pakistan’s perspective on key issues and underscore the importance of strengthening the SCO organization for the benefit of the people in the SCO region.

In recent weeks, there has been a flurry of visits, investment discussions, and economic activity between Pakistan and the Central Asian states.
