Jolted by a high electricity bill, famous actor Rashid Mehmood has wondered why God spared his life after surviving four heart attacks.

“Was I kept alive just to endure this?” he said in a video statement on Friday. The four-minute video had a two-screen display with another showing his bill.

He revealed that after consuming 701 units, he was slapped with a massive bill worth Rs45,368. The video went viral on social media.

“You know God has kept me alive from the four heart attacks. Today, I feel why God kept me alive in a country where I honestly served the nation and billions of rupees were collected in the medium where I worked,” Mehmood said.

The actor wondered about paying such a heavy bill, saying that there had been no work in Lahore for the past many years.

He claimed that all the people in power were accused of money laundering and added that no one brought that money back to the country. “Our country has been left to endure this pain,” he said and added that it was unbearable to live in the country.

“I did wrong to serve my country. I should have also joined thieves so that I would not have been shouting like this,” Mehmood said and added that he was “heartbroken”.

He said: “I am depressed God. I was born in the wrong country and served my country all these years for no reason. I believe that millions of people might be saying similar things.”

He reiterated that there was no work in the Lahore industry and added that no one was doing anything for the artists. “For God’s sake, I am worried. I don’t want to live. I don’t have the strength left to face this issue. I wasted my talent in the wrong country. I could have done all this [working in the entertainment industry] abroad but there is nothing for the nation.”

Mehmood refrained from taking any particular political party’s name, claiming that people in power were busy with power gimmicks. “No one is doing anything for us. God have mercy on us.”
