US State Dept voices support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts

The United States has announced its support for Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate terrorism.

In a press briefing in Washington, the US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that the Pakistani people have suffered greatly from terrorist attacks, and no country should be a victim of such terrorism.

He said that regional security is a shared interest between the US and Pakistan, and they must work together to address the threats.

Miller also expressed concern over the incident of mob violence in Swat where a local tourist was lynched.

He conveyed condolences to the affected families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

He emphasized that acts of religious violence or threats of violence are unacceptable in any form.

The US has urged Pakistan to respect human rights, religious freedom, freedom of expression, and the right to peaceful assembly, the spokesperson reported.

The spokesperson said that the US continues to engage with their Pakistani counterparts on issues related to religious freedom, treatment of minorities, and human rights concerns in Pakistan.

He further stated that the US supports Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and protect its citizens. The US supports measures that promote the rule of law and protect human rights.

Miller said that the US-Pakistan partnership on security matters includes dialogue and the provision of funds to counter-terrorism. The US has ongoing funding, counterterrorism, and capacity-building programs with Pakistan. The military-to-military relations between the US and the Pakistani military also continue.
