Sindh governor announces free solar panels for ‘tenants’
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has announced his decision to provide free solar panels to tenants using up to 300 units of electricity.
In conversation with reporters in Karachi, he vowed to establish a job portal after Eid to help talented youth secure employment opportunities abroad.
Families of victims of street crimes would receive sacrificial goats while 20,000 ration bags would be distributed among the needy, he added.
Moreover, he also urged foreign diplomats to invite businessmen to invest in Karachi. “As a governor, I invite them all here. We will make them offers that will benefit them,” the governor said.
It merits here to mention that the government abolished import duty on the raw materials for solar energy production in the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget.
The decision is expected to lead to a decrease in the prices of locally manufactured solar panels, inverters, and batteries.
Meanwhile, the tax exemption on assembled solar panels remains in place. This means solar system costs will further drop.
While presenting the budget on June 12, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the government decided to provide tax incentives for the local production of solar panels, inverters, and batteries to reduce the country’s dependence on imported solar panels and conserve precious foreign exchange.
