Bakery items in Pakistan, including buns, cakes, and cookies, are set to become more expensive once again, as the federal budget has imposed a 10% sales tax on such items.

Shopkeepers said that customers would again complain after prices increased. This comes after a brief period where bakery items had become slightly more affordable.

The federal budget has levied a 10% sales tax on items like cakes, juices, and buns. This has upset city residents, especially ahead of Eid when everyone enjoys their favourite sweets.

Implementation of the new price lists, as per instructions from the Punjab government, had just begun a few days ago.

A small packet of cookies that was previously priced at Rs150 will now cost Rs160. The large packet will increase from Rs200 to Rs220. Similarly, a small juice packet will now be Rs130, up from Rs120 while the large packet will be Rs250 instead of Rs240.
