A banner reading “Release Imran Khan” was flown over New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium during Pakistan’s T20 World Cup clash against India on Sunday.

In 2019, banners reading “#Justice for Kashmir” and “India stop genocide & free Kashmir” were flown over Headingley during India’s World Cup clash with Sri Lanka.

Cricketer-turned-politician Khan is behind bars for more than eight months in an illegal marriage case.

In February, Khan and his wife were jailed for seven years after voiding their marriage. The court ruled that Khan’s 2018 marriage with Bushra Bibi, a faith healer, was un-Islamic and illegal.

“A ‘Release Imran Khan’ banner flew over the cricket stadium in New York. Well done team Imran Khan,” PTI leader Shahbaz Gill said in an X post. He also shared a video of the flying banner.
