Saudi Arabia calls on citizens to sight Zil Hajj moon

They are requested to register their testimony or contact the nearest center

The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has called on all Muslims across the Kingdom to participate in the sighting of the crescent moon of the Arabic month of Zil Hajj on Thursday.

The court has urged individuals who are capable of observing the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or through binoculars, to approach the nearest court and provide their testimony.

They are requested to register their testimony or contact the nearest center to help them reach the nearest court.

Eid Al Adha, the Islamic festival of sacrifice, falls on the 10th of Zil Hajj.

If Friday, June 7, is confirmed as the first day of Zil Hajj, then Eid ul Azha will fall on Sunday, June 16.

The court’s call for public participation in the moon sighting is a common practice in Saudi Arabia and other Muslim-majority countries, as the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle.

The successful sighting of the crescent moon marks the beginning of a new Islamic month and is crucial for the observance of religious festivals.
