Trump laments impact of criminal conviction on wife Melania
Former President Donald Trump has stated that his historic trial and criminal conviction have been “very hard” for his wife, former First Lady Melania Trump.
Trump was found guilty by a jury of falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments made to former porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential election campaign.
This made him the first US president to be convicted of a crime.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the trial has been “tougher” on his family than on him personally.
He criticized the lurid details that emerged, including allegations about his meeting with Daniels in which he allegedly greeted her in silk pajamas.
Trump acknowledged the possibility of being imprisoned, saying he is “okay with it” but that he is “not sure the public would stand for it.”
Stormy Daniels, the woman at the center of the case, said she was “shocked” at how quickly the jury reached a verdict.

She believes Trump “should be sentenced to jail and some community service working for the less fortunate.”
Daniels added that the case is “not over” for her, saying “Trump may be guilty, but I still have to live with the legacy.”
Trump is still facing numerous other criminal charges in three other cases, including allegations of conspiring to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia.
Despite his conviction, Trump has vowed that success in the upcoming November election would be his “revenge.”
