An Islamabad district and sessions court acquitted incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan in two more cases related to the May 9 events.

Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir announced the reserved verdicts on the applications for acquittal. The court acquitted the PTI chief due to “insufficient evidence”, but he will not be released from prison as he is still serving out his sentences in the cypher and the iddat cases.

Cases were registered against the PTI founder and other party leaders after a violent mob attacked state buildings and military installations when Khan was arrested in a graft case on May 9.

Rivals of PTI have accused Khan’s party of ordering attacks, but the party leaders have called for a judicial inquiry into it.

Lawyers Mirza Asim Baig and Naeem Panjutha had presented arguments in favour of Khan’s acquittal.

The court announced reserved judgments on the acquittal applications in two cases registered at the Shahzad Town police station.

On April 2, an Islamabad court acquitted Khan and former federal minister Asad Umar in a case registered at the Margalla police station for organising a rally.

Earlier this month, the court had acquitted Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rashid, Faisal Javed, Ali Nawaz Awan, Qasim Suri, and Raja Khurram Nawaz in a case registered at the Kohsar police station.
