Sweden refuses to extradite suspect in Karachi cop murder

The suspect has already been arrested in Sweden

The Swedish government has refused to extradite a suspect in the murder of a Karachi police officer, despite his arrest in Sweden.

The suspect, identified as Khuram Nisar, is accused of killing Constable Abdul Rehman on November 21, 2022, following a heated argument. Nisar fled Pakistan after the incident.

Following his arrest in Sweden, Karachi police contacted Swedish authorities through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for his extradition. However, the Swedish government has declined the request, citing a lack of legal grounds for extradition under the existing agreement between Pakistan and Sweden.

Swedish authorities have stated that they will allow their own courts to determine Nisar’s fate based on the evidence presented against him. Sources indicate that Nisar may be acquitted on grounds of self-defense.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a response to the Sindh High Court regarding the Swedish government’s decision. The police will now submit the investigative evidence in the murder case to the Swedish authorities through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
