Supporters foil attempt to rearrest Tanveer Ilyas
Former Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, was released from Adiala Jail on bail in a case filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) but faced an immediate re-arrest attempt at the prison gate. His supporters, however, successfully thwarted the attempt.
Sardar Ilyas was granted bail by the District and Sessions Court Islamabad in a case related to the misuse of a diplomatic passport.
Sources reported that upon his release, police officers attempted to re-arrest him at Gate 3 of the prison. A scuffle ensued between the police and Sardar Ilyas’ supporters, who managed to escort him to a car and drive him away.
Earlier, the District and Sessions Court Islamabad granted bail to Sardar Ilyas in the diplomatic passport case. Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah granted bail against a surety bond of Rs100,000 and ordered his release.

Sardar Ilyas’ lawyer argued that the maximum punishment under the relevant charges is three years and that his client should be granted bail. He also stated that the passport had been returned.
FIA officials presented their record in court, and the FIA prosecutor opposed the bail plea. However, the District and Sessions Court Islamabad ultimately granted bail to Sardar Ilyas.
