SSGC crackdown against gas thefts targets residential consumers in Karachi

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has continued its crackdown on gas theft, removing illegal gas connections and fake meters.

In Karachi, SSGC’s Theft Control Team identified around 100 residents in North Karachi, Korangi, and Liaquatabad who were using gas through unauthorized extensions.

Raids were conducted, and the team dismantled fake meters as well as underground and overhead illegal connections.

Similarly, in Quetta, SSGC made a total of 32 disconnections. This included removing 26 service valves and meters, as well as 6 instances of direct usage, across areas like Subhan Avenue, Garden Housing Scheme, and Chashma Achakzai Road. Additionally, in the Saryaab Zone, the company removed 15 illegal residential connections.

Overall, SSGC has been proactively addressing the issue of gas theft by identifying and disconnecting unauthorized gas usage across Karachi and Quetta.

In the Larkana region, SSGC conducted multiple raids in the Shikarpur, Kamber, and Jacobabad zones, resulting in a total of 18 disconnections. Additionally, 12 disconnections were made in the Nawabshah zone and were found to be involved in underground and overhead gas theft, and the company removed all rubber pipes and clamps used for illegally accessing gas from its main service lines.

In Karachi, the Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations Department, along with the SSGC police and Recovery Department, conducted a raid at Shah Jee Biryani Square on Napier Road. The team discovered a culprit using gas directly through a fake meter, with a connected load of 360 cubic feet per hour. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the individual identified as Abdul Wahid with proper actions are being taken.

SSGC encourages all citizens who are aware of gas theft in their neighborhoods to come forward and report such incidents to the company.
