Govt gears up for another increase in gas prices
The government is gearing to up to further increase prices for domestic consumers, fertilizer, CNG, and cement manufacturers.
According to sources, proposals are under consideration to increase electricity bills by Rs100 to Rs400 rupees for both protected and non-protected consumers.
However, in a plan shared with the IMF mission the govt has suggested not to increase gas prices for the commercial roti tandoors.
The economic team of the IMF mission held negotiations on tariffs, circular debt, and reforms for the gas sector. Sources say that three plans were shared with the IMF mission to reduce the circular debt of the gas sector.
Sources also indicate that the IMF mission was given proposals to increase gas prices for fertilizer plants as well. Discussions were also held on a dividend scheme to reduce the circular debt of the gas sector.
There was an agreement to share data related to recoveries, reforms, and tariffs with the IMF timely.
