Former Sindh governor Ishratul Ibad hints at re-entering active politics

Says role of presidency important under current circumstances

Former Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has hinted at re-entering active politics through a platform having capable leadership.

He told Geo News that he had not yet decided on the platform from which he would play a political role, but there was a “dire need for a platform” where capable leadership could find solutions to the country’s problems.

Ibad said that the current landscape was marked by tensions between the judiciary, the establishment, and Parliament. He emphasised that the judiciary, parliament, and the armed forces were the pillars of the country, and there should be “no perception that there is any tension between these national institutions.”

The former Sindh governor stated that in such circumstances, the role of the presidency becomes important. “The president is the constitutional head of the state and a symbol of the unity of the state, and the presidency should use its influence to resolve any misunderstandings between the institutions.”

He dismissed the perception of him being inclined towards the MQM-London faction, stating that this notion was “completely false and laughable”. In 2015, his party, along with the founder of MQM, had distanced themselves from him, and he had also become detached from them since then.

Ibad stated that he was aware of the propaganda campaign against him and warned those spreading misconceptions and false perceptions about him to be careful.

Recently, former PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail held meetings with Ibad.
