The United Arab Emirates has introduced the “Blue Residency” visa for individuals who made contributions to environmental protection, sustainability, the circular economy, and related fields, Gulf News reported.

A federal cabinet meeting chaired by UAE Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was conducted to approve the 10-year residency scheme.

The Blue Residency program aligns with the UAE President’s directive to extend the Year of Sustainability initiative from 2023 to include 2024, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to sustainability.

It will specifically target supporters of environmental action, including individuals affiliated with international organiSations, international companies, associations, non-governmental organisations, global award winners, and distinguished environmental activists and researchers.

For this scheme, qualified individuals are encouraged to apply for the Blue Residency program by submitting their applications through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security and relevant authorities have the option to nominate eligible individuals for this long-term residency opportunity.

“The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said.
