SIUT founder Dr Adib Rizvi given Humanitarian Recognition Award

Award acknowledges individual's commitment to improving urologic healthcare

Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) founder Dr Syed Adibul Hasan Rizvi has been awarded with the Humanitarian Recognition Award 2024.

The official foundation of the American Urological Association, the Urology Care Foundation bestowed Dr Rizvi with the prestigious award.

“Congratulations to the 2024 Urology Care Foundation Humanitarian Recognition Award Winner: Dr. Syed Adibul Hasan Rizvi, Founder of SIUT,” the SIUT said in a Facebook post.

“Dr Rizvi’s disarming humility, compassion, and altruism so clearly resonate through SUIT’s commitment to providing lifelong follow-up and free immunosuppressive medications for life,” it said.

The institute explained the importance of the Humanitarian Recognition Award 2024 accolade, stating that it acknowledges an individual’s demonstrated commitment to improving access to quality urologic health care in underserved populations. “The awardee is someone who exemplifies the spirit of philanthropy as evidenced by prior humanitarian work.”

Dr Rizvi’s contributions to the field of transplant surgery and his humanitarian efforts have garnered him numerous esteemed accolades, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1998, the Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services in 2004, the Shousha Prize by the World Health Organization in 2008, the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by The Sindh Association of North America in 2015, and the prestigious Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Medal of Distinction) in 2018.

He founded the SIUT in 1970 to address the healthcare challenges and the institute provided treatment to over 3.3 million patients in 2022 alone.
