Gangster-turned-FBI agent Kamran Faridi released from US prison
Former high-profile Pakistani FBI agent Kamran Faridi has been released from prison in Florida after serving nearly four years. Faridi was released on the condition that he leave the United States and return to Pakistan by August of this year.
U.S. District Judge Cathy Seibel of the Southern District of New York ordered Faridi’s release and reduced his sentence from 84 months to 72 months.
Faridi was once a prominent FBI informant and a former gangster in Karachi.
While he has been released from prison, his legal troubles are not over. The U.S. government has revoked his citizenship and two residency permits in the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
According to court documents, Faridi has agreed to leave the United States permanently by the end of August and never return.
According to a report by a private TV channel, Faridi, who lives in Florida with his wife Kelly, revealed that his release came with several conditions, including giving up his citizenship, which he obtained in the early 1990s when he started working for the FBI.

Faridi said he has agreed to return to Pakistan.
Faridi’s imprisonment began on December 9, 2022, after he was charged with threatening three former FBI colleagues in Westchester County, New York.
Faridi had helped orchestrate the arrest of Karachi businessman Jabir Motiwala in London in 2018, which marked the beginning of Faridi’s journey from a criminal to a valued FBI agent, entrusted with sensitive counterterrorism operations.
Faridi led operations with U.S. law enforcement agencies in Karachi and New York between 2009 and 2013 to frame Motiwala, who was eventually arrested in London based on evidence gathered by Faridi.
However, Faridi’s relationship with his FBI handlers soured when he threatened to testify in a UK court that Motiwala was innocent and that the FBI had pressured him to lie about Motiwala’s activities.
Faridi’s downfall began in March 2020 when he was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport while attempting to enter the UK with the intention of testifying against the FBI’s actions regarding Motiwala.
