Manchester United is actively planning a swap offer that includes their star defender, Harry Maguire, to sign a Premier League defender, according to reports.

The Red Devils are considering offering Maguire as part of a deal to acquire Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite.

A highly promising young talent, Branthwaite has impressed with his performances and has even earned a call-up to the England national team.

The teams have made 39 appearances across various competitions this season, he has played a crucial role in helping Everton keep 14 clean sheets.

Reports suggested that Branthwaite’s valuation is estimated to be around £70 million, while United would value Maguire at £20 million in hypothetical negotiations.

United is keen on strengthening their defence during the upcoming summer transfer window.

This season, United has struggled defensively, conceding a total of 51 goals in 34 Premier League games, averaging 1.5 goals against them per match.

The team has faced persistent injury issues in their backline, leading manager Erik ten Hag to utilise 30 different defensive combinations.

The defensive midfielder Casemiro has been deployed as a center-back in recent matches due to the lack of options.

The defence reinforcement has become a top priority for United while Maguire has been one of the team’s most consistent performers this season, the club is open to the idea of parting ways with him to pursue a move for Branthwaite.

Former United assistant manager Kieran McKenna has received praise from Maguire for his exceptional work as the manager of Ipswich Town in the Championship.

McKenna has successfully guided the team to promotion to the Premier League, marking their return to the top division after 22 years.

Speculations have also linked McKenna as a potential candidate to take over at Old Trafford if Erik ten Hag were to be sacked at the end of the season.
