The Pakistani couple living a love story by administering polio drops

Zarina Bibi and Abdul Karim have been going door to door for 14 years

In the Tehsil Jampur district of Pakistan, a husband and wife duo are writing a unique love story – one dedicated to eradicating polio. Zarina Bibi and her husband Abdul Karim, residents of Rajanpur, have taken it upon themselves to ensure every child in their remote region receives the life-saving polio vaccine.

Their area of operation, Sahuwala, is a patchwork of villages and towns with limited accessibility. To reach these far-flung communities, Zarina and Abdul Karim embark on journeys by foot and boat, traversing challenging terrains and waterways.

Zarina explains that the villages, located 40 kilometers away from the main highway connecting Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts, have no land access.

She added that she and her husband have been working as polio workers for 14 years, and the paths in the area are very difficult.

The couple and their team have to travel to these areas on foot but their team works very hard and tries their best to administer polio drops to every child.

Their daily routine starts early in the morning, with boat rides to reach the villages. By afternoon, they complete their vaccination rounds and return to the main highway before nightfall.

For Zarina, having her husband by her side makes the journey not just a duty but also a shared experience. She believes that with dedication, hard work, and passion, no task is too difficult.

This couple’s unwavering commitment to protecting children from polio serves as an inspiration, highlighting the power of love and determination in overcoming challenges and making a positive impact on their community.
