Kissan Ittehad announces Punjab-wide protests

Leaders tell Maryam Nawaz to refrain from offering charity

Khalid Hussain Baath, the central chairman of the Kissan Ittehad, has announced a call for protests across Punjab after rejecting negotiations with the provincial government.

Baath stated that the union would not engage in discussions with secretaries, as proposed by the government, and instead demands direct talks with higher authorities.

He declared that farmers would take to the streets in every district and tehsil of Punjab, bringing their wheat harvests, tractors, and even their children to demonstrate their frustration. Major highways will be occupied by protesting farmers until their demands are met.

Baath specifically addressed Maryam Nawaz, urging her to refrain from offering “charity” and instead ensure farmers receive their rightful dues. He warned that the protests would escalate and expand if their demands remain unaddressed.

The chairman expressed his concern that farmers across Pakistan are being forced into protest due to the government’s inaction. He cautioned that once farmers take to the streets, controlling the situation would become difficult.

Baath condemned the recent violence against farmers at GPO Chowk, describing it as a deeply regrettable act that has provoked strong reactions within the farming community. Despite this, he emphasized the peaceful nature of the farmers and their commitment to non-violent protest.

He concluded by reminding the government that every individual working in any department is ultimately the son of a farmer, highlighting the interconnectedness of society and the importance of respecting the rights and livelihoods of farmers.
