Former light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan has expressed his disappointment over the absence of boxing culture in Pakistan.

In a video, Khan shared his frustration over the lack of support from both officials and the government despite his efforts to address the issue.

Khan, who frequently visits Pakistan, had established an academy in the country for training young boxers. “Now students send messages to me that we want to receive training and participate in boxing fights,” he said and added that the academy has now been shut down.

He expressed his deep concern over the situation, considering the substantial financial investment he had made in establishing the academy, which has now gone to waste.

The British-Pakistani boxer highlighted the need for boxing to flourish in Pakistan and emphasized the potential talent that exists within the country. He hoped that officials and the government would recognise the importance of promoting boxing and providing support and infrastructure for aspiring boxers to nurture their skills.

Despite his own successful career in the sport, Khan’s disappointment stems from the lack of opportunities and resources available to young boxers in Pakistan. With his international experience and expertise, Khan aimed to contribute to the development of boxing in his ancestral homeland. However, the roadblocks and lack of response from relevant authorities have left him disheartened.
