In Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore, fresh firing erupted at the site of an encounter between security forces and Kashmiri militants, resulting in injuries to two Indian soldiers.

The encounter began on Thursday and Indian authorities said they had killed a militant.

After this incident, the firing resumed once again.

A joint team comprising the police and the army initiated a search operation in Nowpora.

The team approached the suspected location, and the militants hiding, opened fire on the security forces, leading to a fierce gunfight.

Indian authorities claimed that a prominent commander from Lashkar-e-Taiba, along with an associate, was trapped in the area.

Indian Prime Minister Narender Modai, in a recent visit to the occupied territory, claimed that his government had suppressed the insurgency that began in the 1980s. However, the latest gunfight refutes his claims.
