A Karachi court rejected a petition filed by a beggar in Karachi over a territorial dispute with three other beggars.

The female beggar, ironically named Ameer Khatoon, told the court that she had routinely pan-handled at a foot path in Saudabad in Karachi.

However, three other beggars, Shafi, Nazeer and Meer Gul, had suddenly appeared a while back and had claimed her spot, denting the little earnings she made each day.

Ameer Khatoon tried to reason with the new beggars to leave the spot to herself but in vain.

She then tried to approach the police with a harassment complaint who refused to file it.

As a last resort, she approached Karachi’s session court to ask that the other beggars be barred from working at her spot.

However, the court ruled on Friday that while it was painful to realise that people were forced to beg to meet their daily needs, no action could be taken on her petition.

The court added that it acknowledged the woman’s sentiments, but spots in the city cannot be reserved by any beggar for themselves.
