Authorities in the United Kingdom raided multiple locations and arrested 12 people for working despite their documents having expired.

According to the BBC, all 12 people who were arrested by Immigration enforcement are Indian in origin and include one woman. The arrests were made in Tipton, West Midlands.

Authorities have detained four of the people and could possibly deport them. However, the other eight have been released on bail.

The workers are accused of illegal working and breaching visa conditions.

The arrests were made after an intelligence report. The arrested Indian nationals were working at a bedding factory and a place making cakes.

The current government under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has increasingly taken a harsh stance against illegal migrants and promised to crack down on illegal workers.

UK has already raised the fine for people who employ illegal workers from £15,000 to £45,000.

Meanwhile, migrant crossings into UK have hit a record high in 2024.

Provisional data from the Home Office, or interior ministry, showed that 4,644 people had been detected arriving across the Channel on small boats such as inflatable dinghies up to March 26 this year.

That compares with 3,770 for the same period last year and 4,162 for 2022, the previous record high.
