Fact check: Did the govt announce Eid allowance for all employees?

A memorandum claiming the allowance has been circulating on social media

A memorandum circulating on social media recently claimed that the federal government has approved an Eid-ul-fitr allowance for all its employees. However the notification is FAKE.

A spokesperson for the ministry of finance confirmed to Aaj News that no such notification has been issued.

The fake memo said that all employees from grades 1 to 22 would be given an allowance amounting to 15% of their basic pay for Eid-ul-fitr.

It had added that the allowance would be applicable to all departments and divisions under the federal secretariat.

The memo is dated March 29 and carries the number F.No.14(10R-3/2021-324.

However, the memo had also said that the allowance would have to be paid by the departments out of their own budgets.

The memo even carries the signature of an officer named Fozia Hussain and has asked all departments to ensure strict compliance.
