Two siblings, a boy and a girl, who went missing in Karachi’s North Nazimabad a day earlier, returned home on Wednesday, police said.

However, the Karachi police and Pakistan Rangers Sindh have their own account of how the two young siblings were recovered from the alleged kidnappers.

Ayan and Anabia left home to buy fast food a day earlier; they were soon reported missing. The mother of the two appealed on social media for help in searching for her children.

Their uncle from their mother’s side Rashid had said that the two siblings went out of their residence around 11:00pm and did not return hours later.

He revealed that the brother and sister were living with him as their mother, Rashid’s sister, was working in Dubai. According to Rashid, his sister and her husband separated eight years ago and the kids had been living at his house since then.

Following their recovery, the Pakistan Rangers Sindh spokesperson said that the mother had received a ransom call from abroad after the two went missing.

However, he said that the Rangers initiated action to search for the missing siblings. The kidnappers left the two in the Haideri area to escape arrest, he added.

On the other hand, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Zeeshan Siddiqui said that it was the Central police that had rescued the children.

SSP Siddiqui said that the police filed a first information report and conducted an intelligence-based operation to recover the children.

The two siblings were recovered within the vicinity of North Nazimabad and were handed over to the father, he added.

Meanwhile, the 12-year-old girl and the 11-year-old boy told the police in their statements that they left home on their own as they were made to clean the washroom and dishes by their grandmother and aunty.

Anabia said that they used to get beaten and cursed at during their stay at her uncle’s house.
