Govt decides to cancel NICs of parents who refuse polio drops
In order to ensure greater success for the polio vaccination campaign, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to cancel the national identitiy cards of parents who refuse to allow polio drops to their children.
The announcement was made by KP Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah upon taking charge of his duties.
Secretary Health Mahmood Ahmad Wazir gave Shah a detailed briefing on ongoing health projects in the province. The minister demanded a briefing on Sehat Card plus by Tuesday as well.
Pakistan and Afghanistan are the last two remaining countries where polio virus is still transmitted.
The existence of the virus in these countries could also pose the danger of global resurgence, according to the World Health Organisation.
There is no cure for polio and it can only be prevented through vaccination.
