Bodies of 4 Karachi fishermen found, 10 still missing

Bodies took 100 hours of search, found near Hijamaru Creek

The bodies of four fishermen who drowned off the coast of Thatta in the boat named Al-Asad have been found near Hijamara Creek after 100 hours of search by officials.

Coastal Media Center spokesperson Kamal Shah stated that a total of 14 fishermen were unaccounted for in the incident and search is continuing for the other 10.

The missing people belonged to Karachi as the missing operation took place for more than three days.

The people found have been identified as Shakeel, Hussain Hashim and Alam and have been shifted to Korangi Mortuary.

The boat tragedy took place due to strong winds that resulted in the boat carrying 45 fishermen collapsing. Only, 31 people have been saved from rescue efforts and the missing include 14 people.

The identified bodies include Goth Ibrahim Haidari resident Shakeel Juma whose heirs will inherit 50,000 per person for the burial of the dead.

A joint search operation by the Pakistan Navy, Sindh Fisheries and Fishermen’s Cooperative Society for missing fishermen is ongoing.

The Department of Livestock and Fisheries Sindh stated that they would assist the survivors.
