Organs donated by a Rawalpindi man were transplanted into the bodies of seven different people in need. One of the surgeries is being touted as the first of its kind in the countries history.

Uzair bin Yaseen, who was 32 years of age, was declared braindead in Rawalpindi. According to Dr Faisal Saud Dar of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, the organs Yaseen had agreed to donate were extracted on Sunday night.

The organs included kidneys, liver, corneas and pancreas.

The pancreas were transplanted to a patient diagnosed with type-1 diabetes in Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, the donor’s liver was donated to two different people including a young man and a child. Dr Dar said that this procedure was the first of its kind in Pakistan.

Additionally, four different people benefited from the donor’s kidneys and eyes. All the procedures took place in Rawalpindi.

Dr Dar said that anywhere between seven to 10 patients can benefit from a single person’s organs.

He added that thousands of people in Pakistan pass away every year simply becuase they cannot find a donor.
