Narendra Modi congratulates Shehbaz Sharif on becoming prime minister of Pakistan
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Shehbaz Sharif after he took oath as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
“Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” PM Modi wrote on his official X handle.
A day earlier, Sharif was sworn in as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan after the latter was elected as the prime minister on March 3.
President Arif Alvi administered the oath to the newly-elected prime minister.
This is Sharif’s second consecutive tenure in the top position as he also served as the premier after the ouster of Imran Khan through a vote of no-confidence in April 2022.
In the March 3 election, Sharif bagged 201 votes in the election for the prime minister. His opponent was Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Omar Ayub Khan who got 92 votes.
