The National Disaster Management Authority has warned that weather in the upcoming weeks could lead to flash flooding, snow bloackages and landslides in multiple parts of the country.

In an advisory issued on Sunday, NDMA said that a new system of heavy western rainfall is projected to take place from March 5 to March 7.

NDMA said that the areas most likely to be affected by the rains include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Upper and Southern Punjab and Balochistan.

However, the authority said that flooding, if it occurs, would be ‘localised’. There is not risk of flooding in downstream areas, but areas with crops could face some damage.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological department has predicted that the weather will remain cold and dry in most parts of the country on Monday. However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan could receive light snowfall and thunderstorms.

Later in the week, thunderstorms are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Zhob. Gwadar, Chagi, Noushki, Kharan, Washuk, Kalat, Chitral, Malakand, Swat, Potohar region and Kashmir, with hilly areas expected to receive snow.

Gwadar, which is already reeling from the effects of torrential rain is expected to receive rains once again from March 9.
