PSL: Quetta clinch last ball thriller with Rutherford heroics
A blazing fifty from Sherfane Rutherford led Quetta Gladiators to victory over Karachi Kings in their clash in the National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Karachi Kings set a target of 166 runs for Quetta Gladiators who chased it down with a dour off the last ball.
The Gladiators won the toss and chose to field against a Kings team affected by illness.
Karachi ran into trouble early, losing Shan Masood in the first over. However, the innings slowly gained momentum with 37 runs from James Vince and 21 runs from Tim Seifert.
While wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, a late blitz from Anwar Ali helped them reach 165/8 in their 20 overs.
Abrar Ahmad starred with the ball for Quetta, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs in his four overs.
In response, Quetta started strong with a 57-run stand for the first wicket with Jason Roy going on to score 52 runs.
However, wickets continued to tumble as Hassan Ali and Zahid Mahmood grabbed two wickets apiece.
However, it was Sherfane Rutherford who took over the innings, scoring 58 runs off 31 balls, including a four and six sixes, that saw the game home.
Needing 16 off the last over, Sherfane finished the job on the last ball with a four.
