The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority raised the per unit price of electricity by Rs7.05 on Monday.

According to a notification issued by NEPRA on Monday, the hike was included in lieu of fuel adjustment charges for the month of January.

The additional amount will be added to bills for the month of March.

However, the price increase will not be applicable for lifeline consumers and K-electric consumers.

The price hike is expected to put an additional burden of Rs66 billion on consumers.

Electricity prices are impacted by fuel prices and a variety of other factors in Pakistan. The prices are also a key driver for inflation as they increase the cost of production for industries.
