ECP committee completes work on Rawalpindi commissioner’s claims: sources
An investigation committee set up by the Election Commission of Pakistan has recorded statements of district returning officers and returning officers from Rawalpindi after explosive claims made by Commissioner Liquat Ali Chatha.
According to sources, the committee completed recording of statements on Tuesday and is now preparing a report that is likely to be presented to the commission on Wednesday.
A total of six DROs and the ROs under them submitted their statements in writing. According to sources, the officers denied the impression of any rigging or pressure from above.
They described the polling process as ‘peaceful and transparent’, accoording to sources.
The committee also acquired a transcript of Chatha’s press conference from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Chatha had claimed that he made returning officers under him to change results for at least 13 MNA candidates in Rawalpindi Division.
He had claimed that winning candidates were made to lose through fake results by upto 50,000 votes.
