The US dollar weakened against the Pakistani rupee in the interbank foreign exchange market on Monday.

The greenback shed one paisa and was trading at Rs279.35 at the closing of the market, as against the closing of Rs279.36 on Friday, February 16.

In the open market, the buying of the dollar was recorded at Rs279.3 while it was quoted at Rs282.2 for selling at the time of filing the story.

In the international market, the dollar held steady on Monday after ticking higher for a fifth straight week on the back of strong inflation data, while the yen traded near the psychologically important 150 level.

US markets are closed for the Presidents’ Day holiday, with trading volumes likely to be low throughout the day.

The dollar index, which tracks the currency against six peers, was last little changed at 104.18, after rising 0.18% the previous week.
