Votes for sale in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank during re-polling
A group of people in Atal Sharif area of the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan bribed voters and doled out cash to them to ensure they cast ballots for their favour candidate, sources said on Monday.
The development took place as re-polling was under way in Tank amid violence incidents at one of the polling stations.
Sources said that a single vote in the Atal Sharif was being sold for upto Rs15,,000. Footage available with the Aaj News showed that men were given money for bringing women voters to the polling station.
The whole operation was being carried out in broad daylight with no sign of any authorities being present.
Footage showed men gathered in queues to get payment against their vote.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suspended the polling process in six polling stations due to deteriorating law and order conditions on February 8.
Polling is set to continue in the six polling stations until 5 pm.
The ECP has not made any statement on the claims of votes being sold so far.
