Karachi teen kills young cousin after watching Indian movie ‘Animal’
In a new twist to the harrowing murder of a child in Karachi’s FB area, the alleged killer has claimed he was influenced by Indian movies and TV shows.
A seven-year-old child, named Aban, had been severely injured in FB Area’s Block 16 on Wednesday, eventually succumbing to his wounds in the hospital. The child had left his house to buy something to eat.
Police investigations had later found his 15-year-old cousin, Sufyan, to be involved in the crime on Saturday and found the blade used in the murder.
However, the investigation took a new twist when the alleged culprit said he had planned the murder after watching the Indian movie ‘Animal’ as well as the TV-show Crime Patrol.
Sufyan told the police that he had taken Aban by the hand, led him out of the house, and concealed a knife in his pocket that he picked up from the kitchen.
Then, mimicking the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal, he took Aban to a deserted area and slashed his throat with the knife from behind.
Renowned psychologist Dr Syed Abdul Rehman said that although people can be influenced by movies and TV shows to carry out such heinous acts, there can be many other factors as well.
He said that seeing or experiencing violence at home can also lead an individual to carry out such acts. The psychologist added that Sufyan had said that he was routinely beaten up by his uncle, and such people can easily harm others.
Dr Rehman also said that perpetrators of such acts often display a lack of emotion. He also said that children should not be exposed to scenes of violence.
