Will it rain or snow on Feb 8?

Rain lashed Karachi on Saturday
Meteorological department’s rain forecast - Aaj News

The recent spell of rain and snowfall has left many wondering whether the weather will remain the same on February 8, when more than 128 million Pakistanis will vote for a new government, or not.

Heavy rainfall in Karachi on Saturday night blocked many roads, making life miserable for the people in Pakistan’s economic hub. Moreover, an under-construction dam in Balochistan’s Ormara burst after rainfall.

When the date of the election was announced, some of the politicians expressed their concerns over the weather. They feared that their voters would not be able to come out of their homes in winter in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The weather changed in Pakistan against the backdrop of the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s prediction last month.

The PMD predicted more rain with isolated heavy rain/snow in the country from January 31 to February 04. It had warned that heavy rain may generate flash floods in Balochistan on February 02 and 03.

When asked about more forecasts for rain in Karachi, chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz told Aaj News that the heavy rainfall in the city was more than the Met Office’s predictions.

He was speaking to the news channel via phone call.

“This trend of intermittent rains will continue till this evening in parts of the city,” Sarfraz said. But it would continue in central and northern areas till Monday afternoon.

He put it this way: 95 per cent of the city received rain last night.

Sarfraz was also asked about any prediction related to rain next week when the country would hold elections.

“The weather will be clear on election day in most areas of the country,” the chief meteorologist said, “as I said the current weather spell will persist till tomorrow afternoon in most parts of the country and then it will end.”

According to him, the weather would be dry in the following days.
