Under-construction dam collapses in Balochistan’s Ormara after heavy rain
An under-construction dam in Balochistan’s Ormara Tehsil collapsed on Saturday as rain and snowfall disrupted daily life in many province cities.
A large amount of water was released after the Basool Dam collapsed, officials said and added that the floodwater was passing through the coastal highway.
Police have closed the traffic at Ormara as the water also passed through the bridge. Authorities have asked the people living in nearby areas to shift to safer locations.
Places in Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Kozak Top, and Qilla Saifullah were blanketed in white after snowfall.
There reports that Jhal Magsi, Loralai, and different areas were still receiving showers.
At least nine people trapped in flood in the Makran Division were rescued by joint efforts of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Balochistan and FC, the PDMA said.
It added that due to heavy rains and snowfall in different areas of Balochistan, all the staff of PDMA Balochistan were on duty.
According to the Met Office’s weather forecast, rain with snowfall over the hills was expected in Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah and Qila Saifullah on Friday and Saturday.
