Families of TTP fighters live in poverty, waiting for their loved ones

Children reveal that their fathers disppeared months ago, never to be heard from

Families of men who joined the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan rue the life of poverty and uncertainty that they are forced to live since the departure of their breadwinners.

The child of man who joined the TTP recently narrated how his father had been taken by the terroist group. He revealed that the family only found months later that their father was in Afghanistan.

The child said that he was forced to collect pieces of scrap so he could sell them for money to make a living. He added that he makes a mere Rs100-200 per day.

He said that his father was fooled into joining the TTP in the name of jihad. Meanwhile the life of his family had been destroyed.

Another child related that his 18-year-old brother had been taken away by the Taliban and was now being asked to fight against Pakistan.

He said that the TTP had lied to his brother when were taking him and said that he wanted him to return to his family.

The child added that since the eldest son left, the family had been forced to sell their home and were still barely managing to make ends meet.

One child, who said he belonged to Mohmand, said that his father had been with the Taliban in Afghanistan since the past five years and the family had no idea of his whereabouts.

He said that one of his brothers sells water while the other sells corn and they have no money to pay their school fees.

The child added that the brothers manage to make Rs200 every day and have no breadwinner while their mother remains sick.

A woman from bajaur revealed that her husband had been taken away by the Taliban to Afghanistan and they no longer have any idea if he is dead or alive.

She said that she was essentially living the life of a widow and her children lived like orphans.

One young man revealed that that his brother had been taken by the TTP in the name of jihad. He said that the brother had reached out a month ago, saying that the TTP was asking him to fight against Pakistan and had imprisoned him upon his refusal.

He said that his father had been sick for a long time but the family had no means to get him treated.
