Sports journalist Shoaib Jatt has approached the Sindh High Court, seeking security after receiving death threats on social media for criticizing former captain Babar Azam in a live show.

Following the disappointment the Pakistani team faced in the ODI World Cup in 2023, Shoaib Jatt presented his analysis on the weak performance from Pakistan’s side while covering World Cup transmissions.

“Chief selector Babar Azam is responsible for Pakistan’s omission. Inzamam-ul-Haq was not the chief selector. The two other selection committee members, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi, along with Babar, have been running the team for three years,” he said on air.

“They added their friends and well-wishers to the squad. Haris Rauf hasn’t done anything but still played all the games. Mohammad Nawaz failed as a spinner. Babar scored 320 runs in 9 innings, and his four fifties, except one, came in a losing cause. He hasn’t done anything in the last four big tournaments,” he added.

However, his words during the live transmission led to threats for him and his family. A petition seeking protection has been filed by Jatt in the SHC court, stating that he and his family received death threats on social media.

Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto heard the petition and issued notices to Inspector General Sindh Riffat Mukhtar, DG FIA Mohsin Hassan Butt, and other concerned authorities, asking them to file replies.
