ECP serves notice to GDA’s Irfanullah Marwat over aerial firing in Karachi
The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday served a show cause notice to Grand Democratic Alliance’s (GDA) Irfanullah Khan Marwat over aerial firing during a party gathering in Karachi.
“During the corner meeting of your party aerial firing was carried out to show off the power of your party and harass the opponent by showing aggressive attitude and threat to other contestant candidates,” the electoral watchdog stated in its notice.
Marwat is contesting from the GDA platform on PS-105 in the February 8 elections.
The ECP directed Marwat to respond to the notice within two days and to defend the actions taken during the party’s corner meeting.
Section 17 of the ECP’s Code of Conduct states that all types of firing including aerial firing, use of crackers and other explosives at public meetings and at or near the polling station will not be allowed.
